Rape is a sensitive topic.
People tend to balk at its mention and find it hard to dwell on the sordid details.
Believe takes the bull by the horns and make explicit the trauma of such an experience in this powerful piece of theatre in which two convincing actresses reveal uncomfortable truths about friendship, jealousy and blame.
Their separate monologues document different versions of the same evening.
Poor acting might have served to trivialise such an incident but thankfully, both performers managed to project a harrowing realism, and their lines were genuinely effective in their simplicity ("everything hurts - even my hair").
I left wanting to know how their story ended, and the evocative description still lingers - a girl, crying at her reflection, with a footprint on her forehead.
