Detectives are hunting for a man who raped a woman in a Sussex street.

The victim, in her early fifties, was sat on a bench in a small park area opposite Thomas A'Beckett School, in West Tarring High Street, when she was attacked from behind.

The man raped her and stole £20 from her before leaving the area.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Sunday July 26 but the woman only reported the incident to the police on December 7.

The man is described as white, about 5'9", of muscular and broad build, with prominent front teeth and short brown hair.

He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt and jeans.

Detective Constable Graham Gray said: "There have been no other similar assaults in this area recently.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who can assist us.

"Were you in the West Tarring High Street area on the last Sunday evening in July this year and if so did you see the man or the incident ? Have you seen a man of this description in the area since then?"
