Heading up an excellent triple bill of (mostly) all-girl bands on Friday, which saw Mortgage and Molar also play, Skinny Girl Diet, a young three-piece already lauded by punk icon Viv Albertine, made the Albert’s stage their own.

Whether it was in the pout of singer/guitarist Delilah Holliday, the fizzy mock-aggression and wild hair of drummer/sister Ursula, or the occasional eardrum-piercing scream that burst out from behind bassist Amelia Cutler’s fringe, the audience was glued to them throughout.

They traded largely in a carbon copy of the 1990s grunge scene before all the money ruined things, and had the tunes to back up such a heavily stylised look as well.

Clearly too they were far more than just an image, despite what some of their recent press shots might have you believe.

That said, it was a great image, and Delilah’s voice is definitely one of the most visceral and raw around today.

Whether she was genuinely in a bad mood, or simply pretending, when coupled with the noise she made, you knew didn’t want to mess with her and her “bad female gang.”

And what could be more punk than that?
