People are expected to pack a public meeting about a controversial parking scheme tonight.

It was called after former Brighton and Hove mayor Jenny Barnard- Langston threatened to take the city council to court.

She said residents of Bolsover Road, Hove, were not properly consulted over plans for parking bays in the road.

The move could see parking banned down one side of the narrow street.

Mrs Barnard-Langston said residents were prepared to force a judicial review of the parking scheme unless consultation was re-opened.

Mrs Barnard-Langston and husband Mark Barnard have organised tonight's meeting with Tory councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn.

Alternative suggestions including making Bolsover Road a one-way street will be discussed. Mrs Barnard- Langston, whose husband Mark has lived there all his life, said: "Gary has informally re-opened consultation with residents.

"The new proposals have only been distributed in Bolsover Road although the one-way system includes Grange Road and Kingsthorpe Road.

"Residents have asked that since they were excluded from the formal consultation process any decision to introduce a scheme should be deferred and consultation re-opened.

"We have also asked that residents should be involved with the council in designing a scheme that best suits them."

Brighton and Hove City Council's environment committee is due to consider the proposals when it meets on Thursday.

The residents' meeting will be at West Hove Junior School hall, School Road, Hove, tonight at 7pm.
