MATTHEW Daley was well known to police and mental health services before he killed Don Lock.

At one point he called police so often about voices in his head that they threatened to charge him with wasting police time.

Last week Colm Donaghy, chief executive of the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said he was not aware of that and did not know whether Daley’s mental health workers knew either had been told about those calls.

Daley was also involved in other violent incidents including acting violently towards his partner.

The Argus has asked Sussex Police several questions about its involvement with Daley, which it has said it will answer within a week.

These are: 1. How many times was Daley arrested by police?

2. Were police called in June 2012 when he smashed up his father’s friend’s windscreen?

3. Was Daley arrested at this point/why was he not charged?

4. Did police tell his mental health team about this incident?

5. Were police called in March 2014 when Daley attacked a stranger?

6. Was he arrested/why was he not charged?

7. Did police tell mental health services about this incident?

8. Did police tell mental health services in March 2014 when Daley regularly phoned 999 about hearing voices?

9. How often were police called about Daley and domestic violence?

10. How often did police meet with mental health teams around Daley in general?

11. In general, what steps did police take to try and reduce Daley’s violent behaviour?

Sussex Police’s chief inspector Paul Phelps said police would work alongside partners to address the reasons behind persistent calls.

He added the force uses mental health nurses alongside police officers to help those with mental health issues and has mental health nurses working in its custody suites.
