Hundreds of worried residents packed a public meeting about proposals to introduce a controversial parking scheme around their homes.

People from Bolsover Road, Hove, Grange Road and some neighbouring streets confronted their ward councillors about the plans at West Hove Junior School last night.

Garry Peltzer Dunn and Ted Kemble, who represent Wish Ward, support Brighton and Hove City Council's parking zone scheme that is being rolled out across the city.

But Coun Peltzer Dunn told the meeting last night that if residents wanted their small number of streets to be excluded, he would represent their views at a meeting of the council's environment committee tomorrow.

Jenny Barnard-Langston, of Bolsover Road, a former Brighton and Hove mayor, said residents had been excluded from the council's formal consultation and not had all the options explained.

She said: "They had some serious concerns, mainly about double yellow lines in quite a bit of the area. It is a one size fits all' parking scheme. People are shocked at this sense of that it is going to happen regardless of what their views are."

Mrs Barnard-Langston has threatened to take the city council to a judicial review over the consultation process.

Before tomorrow's meeting she will ballot residents about whether they want their streets to be included.
