If it's a party you're after, get down to the Theatre Royal this week.

Boogie Nights is crammed full of the hits from the disco world of the Seventies.

Right from the start you're left in no doubt as to what to expect - an evening of audience participation.

The doorman of the Boogie Nights Disco, the place where most of the action is set, starts things off with a warm-up routine that has most hands clapping and waving.

He is soon joined by the rest of the cast who provide a nostalgic evening full of powerful singing and energetic dancing.

The problem starts when the music stops and the story of the troubled romance between Roddy and Debs takes over.

With a thin storyline, trite dialogue and characters nothing more than cartoons, it's like something from the pages of a teen magazine. Thank goodness the musical interludes come thick and fast.

Natalie Waters and Roni Elizabeth Hart are a knockout in Enough Is Enough, while Jane Doyle proves she is not just a comedy actress but can also raise a storm vocally.

Anthony Costa has the hard task of playing the unlovable Roddy whose male chauvinism is greeted with hissing and booing by the largely female attendance.

This, coupled with actors stepping out of character to talk to the audience, is reminiscent of being at an out-of-season pantomime.

The audience loved it.
