We were happily(ish) watching Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End last weekend at the Brighton Odeon when suddenly the film stopped to be replaced by a rubbish 1970s interval animation and a message telling us we could buy refreshments in the foyer.

I was outraged. We'd had no warning of this, no indication of when the film was going to restart and when it did we had 15 minutes of people trooping back to their seats, disturbing those of us trying to remember where we were in the plot.

What made it worse was knowing that my son had seen the same film in the same cinema two days earlier with no interval.

I complained to the cinema and was informed this was a head office decision and that two out of the four showings of this film were having intervals inserted because the film was so long. I was also told that Buena Vista did not mind them doing this so why should I. I told them that Buena Vista didn't have to sit in the cinema and pay £26 for the privilege!

I have finally managed to get some ticket vouchers out of them, but worryingly I have been told that this is going to increase and other cinemas in our city may also resort to this within longer films.

I pay for a cinema ticket to watch a film in its best possible setting - great picture, great sound, uninterrupted.

If they're going to start putting commercial breaks in again I may as well wait until it comes onto Film4 or ITV to have my experience spoiled for free rather than pay for the privilege. Come on The Argus - it's time to start a campaign for real cinema with no breaks.
