SCHOOLCHILDREN enjoyed a dance masterclass from Grammy nominated former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.

The dancer and Youth Sport Trust ambassador was at Balfour Primary School in Brighton where 30 pupils learned some of the moves that shot her to super stardom.

Kimberly visited the school as part of her Well-Fit initiative, which is aimed at primary school aged girls and boys and uses dance to increase physical activity levels, self esteem and boost confidence.

The pupils, aged eight and nine, took part in a series of warm up exercises before learning some isolation moves and then performing a choreographed dance.

Balfour Primary School won the dance class after entering a competition at the Youth Sport Trust national conference held at the beginning of the year.

Kimberly, who became an ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust in 2015, is passionate about inspiring young people on the positives of dance and fitness. She said:

“I’ve been dancing for over 20 years, so my body is used to movement and exercise. Dancing has improved my health, but it’s also had a huge impact on my wellbeing and confidence.

“The aim of Well-Fit is to use dance to get more young people physically active and the way we can do this is by providing something easy for teachers to use. Dance isn’t scary, it doesn’t need to be complicated, you just need a few core moves and you’re set. I hope the teachers that took part in the class today can see that dance activities are a great way of boosting activity levels, whilst increasing body confidence.

“The valuable insight we will get from these schools visits will also help to secure further investment so we can roll the programme out nationwide.”

Kimberly is visiting four other schools across the country as part of a dance road show to help shape her Well-Fit primary school initiative, which the Youth Sport Trust will develop and deliver to schools.
