The developers planning for the future of Brighton Marina are planning to invest £2.3 million in public art.

London-based artist Jason Bruges has been chosen to design lighting for the area where developer Explore Living is planning to build.

Mr Bruges has created lighting pieces at Covent Garden and Madrid.

His proposals for the Marina include projections on the cliff face activated by the movement of people above and below, as well as reflective water features and underwater lights.

Public art consultants Eidos Arts is working on the latest project with Explore Living, part of construction giant Laing O'Rourke.

Eidos Arts director Pascale Lacroix said: "We have found that the Marina is perceived as a suburban shopping mall rather than a pleasant place to live or spend quality time, there is no reflection of vibrancy nor the strong artistic life that is expected of Brighton and Hove.

"The Marina fails to take advantage of the site's natural beauty or spectacular geology."

Explore Living is planning 1,280 new flats in five complexes, including a 28-storey tower.

Brunswick Developments has already won approval for its plans for a 40-storey tower with 850 homes.

Mr Bruges' plan for the Marina was inspired by the masts of boats, reflected light from the sea and the movement of the waves near the cliff.
