ARGUS picture editor Allan Hutchings is encouraging readers to get snap happy for our photography competition.

The Argus is once again running its One Summer’s Day competition and we want to hear from you.

Talented photographers across the county are being asked to focus on one day - Saturday June 25 - and take a very special picture.

The image can be whatever you like but it needs to sum up what that particular day, summer and Sussex means to you.

The competition is sponsored by photography specialists Jessops, which recently opened its 51st store in North Street, Brighton.

We are hoping to see a range of images taken by people at any time on June 25.

It could be somewhere in the countryside, or the county’s wildlife.

Mr Hutchings said: "You do not need to be a professional or experienced photographer to capture a fantastic image.

"Especially with smartphones now, it is so much easier to take a picture that catches your eye.

"Why not get the whole family involved? Young and old, why not get together to photograph anything that you think represents what a summer's day means to you."

He added for him, a perfect summer's day can be summed up by relaxing with family and enjoying a cream tea.

There are first, second and third place prizes worth a combined total of £2,500 for adults and a junior prize for those under 16.

The first place picture will win the latest and best camera technology from Jessops in the form of an Olympus Pen-F camera worth £1,000.

The runners up will also win fantastic photography prizes, which will include Jessops Academy courses, printed canvases and hardware.

Argus editor Mike Gilson said: “One Summer’s Day is a perfect chance to capture and record all that is good and joyous about Sussex and her communities.
