An initial post mortem to discover how a popular reporter died has proved inconclusive.
Tests on Ben Steppel, who worked as sports editor for the Chichester Observer, were carried out at Worthing Hospital today after colleagues found him dead on his bed on Tuesday.
Worthing coroner's officers told The Argus that further histology tests - tests on his skin - needed to be carried out to determine a cause of death.
Mr Steppel, 37, had worked extensively across Sussex as a sports reporter. He also worked as a football referee and a cricket umpire across the county.
Concerned colleagues, including Jon Buss, editor of the Worthing Herald who Mr Steppel had previously worked for as a sports reporter, found him lying face down on his bed at his flat in Worthing on Tuesday after he failed to turn up for work in Chichester.
