A GREAT-grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday with the newest addition to her family, who was born less than three weeks ago.

Doris Aldridge, mother of The Aldridge Foundation millionaire founder Sir Rod Aldridge, turned 100 and celebrated it with her nearest and dearest at her home in Wilbury Road, Hove.

She said: "I feel very happy and thankful in reaching this age. I count my blessings every day in many ways. I have been looking forward to celebrating with my grandchildren and great grandchildren along with meeting my newest great grandchild, Annie for the first time today."

Annie is the newest addition to Doris's family, joining her son Rod, four grandchildren Debby, Michael, Jennifer and Robert and great-grandchildren Florence and Atticus.

Sir Rod said: "We had a great party at hers and we’re having a bash at ours on Saturday up in Surrey.

“It was really nice, we had about 60 people there.

The Martlets were there, and that’s her charity, so she was pleased with that and it was just a brilliant day.

“She was made up with her card from the queen.

“It’s a real raise your hat kind of moment.

“She’s the second person in our family to reach a hundred – I don’t know what the secret is.

“Sadly, we lost my dad at a very early age, so this is special.”
