EXTRA police were called into the centre of Brighton over the weekend following rumours of a far-right protest.
Sussex Police bolstered its numbers on Saturday (July 16) in preparation for a March For England-style demonstration similar to one that took place in June.
Chief Inspector Justina Beeken said: "We were aware of arrangements being made for gatherings but no group notified us of an event or engaged with us.
"Given the problems and violence that arose in similar circumstances in June, the number of officers was increased.
"But I'm pleased to say there were no problems and we were able to stand down the extra resources.
"We will of course be happy to facilities any peaceful protest and urge groups to contact us in advance so we can assist with arrangements.
"However we will not tolerate any violence or disruptive activity and offenders will be dealt with quickly and robustly."
