Jewellery was stolen after burglars broke into a home through a window.
A woman left her home in Poulters Lane Worthing at around 5.15pm and came home half an hour later to find a window on the ground floor had been smashed.
There had been an untidy search of many rooms and it is believed a number of jewellery items were taken.
Police are appealing for information following the crime on Tuesday July 19.
Detective Constable Emma Fields said: "The victim had only left her home for a short time and it is possible she may have disturbed the suspect as her purse, smart phone and iPad were left untouched in the kitchen."
Witnesses can email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference 1321 of 19/07.
