SOUTHERN will now operate trains to Falmer station after an 11th hour u-turn.

Earlier today the rail operator said no trains would stop at Falmer this evening for Albion's home game against Nottingham Forest.

The company is still operating a much reduced timetable following three days of strike action by members of the RMT.

The operator had said that given the high numbers expected to travel by train, it “cannot guarantee the safety of passengers and staff”.

After speaking with British Transport Police, Southern decided that from 5pm, no trains will call at Falmer station and the station will be closed.

But after 4pm, less than four hours before kick-off, the train company said it would now operate services to Falmer station every 10 minutes.

Brighton and Hove Albion had already put in place alterative transport to allow its fans to get to the game. These will remain in place.
