A LODGER has appeared in court charged with murdering his landlord.
Bricklayer Alan Knight, 51, is accused of fatally stabbing David Bond, 50, whose body was found at his home in Osmonde Close, Broadwater, Worthing, on Tuesday last week.
Knight appeared from custody at Brighton Magistrates yesterday (Tuesday) where his case was sent to Lewes Crown Court for a first hearing today (Wednesday).
He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth, with his address given as Brighton Road, East Worthing.
Knight was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after surrendering to Lancashire Police in Fleetwood in the early hours of Friday.
He was arrested but needed hospital treatment for self-inflicted wounds before travelling.
Mr Bond’s family remembered him as a “gentle giant”.
His mother, Anne Manley-Rollings, said: “He was always happy, cheerful and he enjoyed life.”
His step-father Sonny added: “He was kind as well and he liked to help others.”
