I WAS really shocked to read in Thursday’s article about the proposed electoral boundary changes.
Councillor Steve Bell said: “If you look at Woodingdean it has traditionally always been connected to all the Deans and now we are being moved out. But we are not moaning.”
It looks like Steve’s a bit confused. As someone who’s elected to represent Woodingdean residents, moaning is kind of his job.
Steve also doesn’t appear to understand the the Boundary Commission is currently consulting on the proposals – that means it does us to moan and let it know where the proposals have not taken account of local geography and links.
It really appears that, unfortunately, our Woodingdean Conservative councillors are looking to serve the interests of the Conservative Party instead of the interests of the people who elected them.
As suggested in the article, cutting Woodingdean out of Brighton Kemptown is part of a proposal that secures a safe seat for Simon Kirby.
I live in Woodingdean and feel that our connection with the other Deans is more important than any political considerations.
I think that as a federation of villages, we are better off than we would be on the edge of a new constituency where there are no natural links between us and our nearest neighbours, Bevendean.
I have started a petition called Boundary Commission don’t break up the deans on change.org
