A TRAIL of blood was found leading from a crime scene down a main shopping street this morning.

Passersby made the discovery as they walked along St James’s Street, Brighton at around 11am.

The spattered drops of blood appeared to lead from The Bay Tree emergency accommodation block of flats in Lower Rock Gardens, along St James’s Street and ending in a pool on the corner of Camelford Street.

Daniel Harris, founder of the Emergency and Temporary Housing Residents Action Group, saw the blood and raised concerns about the incident. Police said they were called to the scene after reports of a smashed window at a flat in the street at 5.30am. Officers and a forensics team spent most of the morning there.

Police have not yet confirmed if they know why the blood was there or if they are looking for someone injured in the attack.

A Sussex Police spokesman said enquiries are ongoing and urged anyone with information to call police on 101 quoting 118 of 25/11.
