A FALCONER is appealing to the public to help him find his beloved owl.

Kevin Lochner has been spreading the message in the hope that someone will spot Luna, his European eagle owl, after she disappeared on Friday January 13.

Luna went missing from Aldingbourne Country Centre, near Chichester, at around 4.30pm after Mr Lochner saw her hunting rabbits on the grounds.

Kevin is head falconer at Aldingbourne Country Centre

He said: “She is a very large bird so could be easily spotted but so far there have been no confirmed sightings, so we need to try and reach as many people as possible to help bring her home.

“I am getting quite worried now because she could go further afield than she already is. She thinks that I am her parent due to all of the feeds and other roles I play that would normally be carried out by the mother.”

The 39-year-old said that it would be hard to imagine that she has travelled more than ten miles since Friday, due to the fact that owls like Luna do not tend to fly very far.

Mr Lochner alerted the Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital in Chichester and will soon alert local branches of the RSPB and RSPCA.

A spokeswoman for Brent Lodge said: “If we get a call about a missing owl we usually put out a notice and all we can do then is hope that anyone that happens to see the owl will alert us or other relevant organisations.”

Luna is 2ft tall with a 5-6 ft wingspan.

She has orange eyes and caramel, black and white feathers with a silver ring on her right foot.
