THE Prime Minister has outlined the Government’s plan for the most extreme Brexit imaginable.

The Conservatives are colluding with the far right, with the justification of a slim referendum majority, to hurl Britain towards a dystopian future for which most people did not vote.

In Brighton, almost 70 per cent voted Remain. And according to the latest YouGov survey, just 39 per cent of the British public support the Prime Minister’s vision of a hard Brexit. Meanwhile, 48 per cent of people want Britain to either remain a member of the EU or, at least, maintain a close relationship with our European neighbours.

Theresa May claims: “The British people have united to back Brexit.” They have not. Far from it. The soundbite is a cover being used to betray ‘the will of the British people.’ The plan to wrench Britain out of the Single Market and out of the Customs Union is extremely risky. And Theresa May has no mandate to do it. An extreme Brexit will see our economy harmed as part of the Prime Minister’s desperate desire to end free movement.

The veiled threat to the EU about Britain creating its “own economic model” if we don’t get a good deal is also deeply concerning because Theresa May is talking about turning the UK into a corporate tax haven.

The plans are at best an extreme gamble and at worst toxic for Britain and its people. As Greens, we’ll resist any attempt to slash our state through corporate tax cuts and race to the bottom on regulations. We will push to maintain close ties with the EU and fight for the public’s right to have their say on the deal.
