THE item dominating the news this week is Trump’s ban on immigration into the US, causing widespread outrage and resulting in UK wide demonstrations.

Brighton staged a 2,000 strong protest on Monday night, as reported in The Argus, which seemed to be both positive and enthusiastic.

Therefore I was appalled to see several videos and tweets praising a grossly sexist crowd chant, referring to women’s genitalia. Large sections of the crowd chanted (to the tune of DJ Otzi’s “Hey Baby”) “Hey hey Trump, hu ha, I wanna know why you’re such ...”. You get the idea.

Donald Trump is a renowned misogynist who has made numerous highly sexist remarks, many referring to groping women. Therefore it seemed highly ironic that his opponents used similar language.

I saw some negative comments, one criticising the “foul language”.

Many others found it funny and ‘typical Brighton’, suggesting “it showed unity”.

I have not seen any comments objecting to the gross sexism of the chant at the Brighton protest.

To many people the word is just a casual term used to insult someone they dislike.

Use of this word to describe Trump does not hurt him.

Instead it insults all women.

It is an insult which Trump is reportedly no stranger to using against women.

I am disappointed that Brighton, often seen as a liberal and inclusive city, could not find a chant that reflects this reputation.
