EMERGENCY services were on stand-by at Leeds Bradford Airport tonight for a plane arriving with a suspected "hydraulic fluid leak".

West Yorkshire Police said a Jet2 flight from Cyprus that was due to land at 8.55pm had been circling the airport in an effort to slow down before landing.

A spokesman for the police said: "There is an issue from a plane which is coming into Leeds Bradford. We believe it is a hydraulic fluid leak. We are on standby at this point."

He added: "I believe it is a problem with hydraulic fluid that has got onto the landing gear."

West Yorkshire fire service sent crews from Bradford, Idle, Shipley, Rawdon, Cookridge and Moortown to the incident.

A fire service spokesman said the plane had landed safely and was being towed to the airport building.

Police added that all passengers were safe.
