A seagull and a deckchair are among the iconic symbols of Brighton and Hove that are up for nomination to replace the Monopoly boot and Scottie dog on the city’s latest edition of the board game.

Residents are being invited to decide all six tokens for the new official Monopoly board based on Brighton and Hove.

It means the boot for the Monopoly tokens like the Scottie dog and racing car and in their place could be a bust of Norman Cook, a beach hut or an ice cream cone.

The decision by board game bosses to update the board comes following Brighton and Hove Albion FC’s promotion to the Premier League.

The public are being asked to suggest ideas for the customised tokens.

But the games makers said a casting of a naked human being - which would have been a nod to Brighton’s famous nudist beach - is being ruled out.

The 30 properties that feature in the game will also be updated, with the British Airways i360 and the American Express Community Stadium likely to make an appearance.

Natasha Rebuck, from the makers of the edition Winning Moves UK who will be developing it under official license from Hasbro, said: “We are totally open minded about what will feature in the game.

“We want to hear from the Brighton and Hove public on what they see as embodying the spirit of the city in this great new board.”

Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth are among the other south coast cities with their own unique edition.

Brighton and Hove’s edition has not been updated since its first release in 2003. The tokens in that game were the original London Monopoly classic boot, racing car and co.

Ms Rebuck added: “Since 2003 the city has transformed in national and international status.

“The new board, whilst paying a huge and respectful nod to the past, will very much be about the Brighton and Hove of today and its’ bright tomorrows.”

The new Brighton and Hove board will be in stores and available online just in time for Christmas.
