A police officer was injured during the arrest of a suspect.
Sussex Police responded to reports of a man attacking a woman around 9pm on Thursday in New Steine Mews, Brighton, with a large presence of police vans and cars closing off St James's Street.
Officers arrested a 51-year-old local man on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm but during transportation to custody the man resisted officers.
He was sprayed with an incapacitant to control him but one of the officers in the van with him was injured which required medical treatment and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
The female officer was later reported to be safe and well.
