THE Mayor of Eastbourne has presented two local charities with £13,077.34 collected during a year of fundraising.
Councillor Pat Hearn chose Refuge (Eastbourne), which helps women and children affected by domestic violence, and The Eastbourne Open Award Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a programme of personal development for young people, for her charities of 2016/7.
With the support of her Charity Committee, she organised a raft of fundraising events including an Edwardian Charity Ball which raised over £4,000, a number of Quiz Nights and a bowls tournament.
Councillor Hearn said: “I’m most grateful to all those who came along to my fundraising events over the past year and supported these two brilliant charities.
“We have raised a fantastic amount which will be split between two very worthy causes.”
