A FATHER and son have condemned the potential closure of seven libraries.
Stephen and Dan Shing, both East Sussex county councillors, feel the closures would be a big loss to communities across the county.
Langney, Mayfield, Ore, Pevensey Bay, Polegate, Ringmer and Willingdon libraries will come under review next week as the county council looks to save money.
The possible closures come as online library usage continues to grow and the council claims library use has dropped by 40 per cent in the past ten years.
Councillor Stephen Shing said: “The proposed closure is not justified in this area and is not fairly proportioned.
“Our residents have to travel more than 20 minutes to the nearest library and we have one of the highest elderly population areas in Sussex.”
Councillor Dan Shing said: “I understand the reductions in funding and need to make changes to how the county provides the service but it seems our area has been targeted the most.”
