ARUNDEL Castle staged a dramatic pirates and smugglers day.
Visitors came face to face with brigands and cut-throats from the 18th century, a period when smugglers freely roamed across Sussex, plus the crew of the legendary Mermaid who menaced the high seas.
Set in the Keep, 30ft above ground level, the event also gave visitors a window into the day-to-day life of an 18th century smuggler with period-accurate craft displays and weaponry demonstrations.
The final event of Arundel Castle’s open season will be Normans and Crusaders in the Keep, an exciting exploration of 12th century life, taking place on October 25 and 26.
