A HOSPICE has launched a new drive to find more people willing to help it continue to provide its vital services.

The Martlets needs volunteers to work at its nine charity shops in the Brighton and Hove area.

The Hove-based hospice says getting involved can help boost a person’s CV, particularly if they are planning to return to the workplace and need to brush up on their skills. People looking for work experience to help them on the road to a career can also benefit by giving up some of their spare time.

Allison Martin from the hospice’s retail team said by dedicated a few hours a week can be really beneficial.

She said: “Our New Year New You campaign is all about encouraging people to improve their skills by simply giving a few hours to Martlets each week.

“Volunteering in our shops is great fun and it’s a fantastic opportunity to really understand how retail works.

“You’ll be part of one of our friendly teams, quickly building confidence to gain experience in visual merchandising, customer service and sales.

“If you have some time to spare then it’s an excellent way to get involved with a local charity.

“You’ll be hands-on right from the start and will see how your efforts really make a difference to families in the Brighton and Hove area.

“You’ll learn so much from the experience, with transferable skills that will be fantastic if you are looking for a career in retail.

“However it will also build your confidence regardless of where your future takes you.

“This could be your first taste of the working world so it’s an enjoyable way to learn about working in teams and customer service, which are important for all jobs.”

Martlets is looking for volunteers aged 16 and above to work in shops in Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Peacehaven, Rottingdean, and Woodingdean.
