PROMINENT politicians are regularly spotted carrying out their duties around the county.

Former Leader of the Opposition Neil Kinnock is pictured while attending Langley Primary School in Eastbourne in 1990.

He is reading a book to a class full of young pupils at the school with one of them sat on his knee and the rest of the youngsters intently looking on.

Mr Kinnock served as a Labour MP from 1970 through to 1995.

He first represented the Welsh residents of Bedwellty and then Islwyn.

The prominent politician became leader of the Party in 1983, serving in the role until 1992.

Once John Major became leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister in 1990, Mr Kinnock began his failed attempts to call for him to hold a general election in 1991.

Sir Otho Prior-Palmer, MP for Worthing, is pictured above in 1961.

He became MP for the constituency in 1945, which was created due to boundary changes prior to the general election that year.

Sir Otho represented Worthing in Parliament until 1964.

Former Chief Secretary to the Treasury Maurice Macmillan gave a speech at Hertford Road Primary School in Brighton in 1969.

The former Tory MP is the son of Harold Macmillan, who was Prime Minister from 1957 to 1963.

Both he and his father served as chairman of Macmillan Publishers.

Leslie Coomber, who was president of the Lions Club, is shown presenting the former mayor of Brighton, Dudley Baker, with a cheque for £450 towards equipping a cancer clinic in Brighton.
