CAMPAIGNERS who petitioned the council today for controls to tackle "parking chaos" in the Surrenden Road area were "profoundly disappointed" after the committee turned them down.

Environment and transport committee chairwoman Councillor Gill Mitchell told petitioners a consultation on their area would not be bumped up a schedule agreed last year.

Her response came despite the support of ward councillors and a deputation which showed 89 per cent of Surrenden residents think parking has got worse in the last three years.

Rynd Smith who presented the deputation told The Argus his group was "quite profundly disappointed" but said the fight would continue.
