A TEAM of volunteers from gas distribution company SGN spent a day sorting through thousands of donations received by St Peter and St James Hospice.

Six employees from the Horley head office helped at the hospice, which provides care for terminally-ill patients from Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Uckfield and the surrounding villages.

The team offered their support as part of its community action programme in which every employee is given one day a year on company time to offer help in their community.

The colleagues worked in the hospice’s warehouse alongside regular volunteers to help sort through donations of clothing, toys, books and electrical items before they were sent on to be sold in one of the hospice’s eight charity shops.

For network assistant Robert Ryland this was his fourth time volunteering with the hospice.

He said: “I’ve previously had a family member in a hospice and volunteering is a way of me giving a little back.”
