A high-powered supercar has smashed into the front of an estate agents in central Brighton.

The incident happened at around 9.28pm on Wednesday in Western Road, where a blue Maserati 3200, crashed into Fox and Sons.

Police, ambulance and fire crew attended the scene. Authorities cordoned the area and cars and buses were diverted to alternative routes. 

Two pedestrians were hit by the car. One was a 34-year-old woman from Hove, who sustained slight injuries, and a 25-year-old woman from Hove, who sustained serious injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver, who fled the scene, and the vehicle has been seized for forensic analysis.

Both were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment.

One witness said he saw one person was reportedly trapped between the Italian supercar and the shop door.

James Adamson wrote on Twitter: "I saw three people being treated in ambulances and one person was said to be trapped between the car and the shop door."

Police confirmed the car is registered to a local owner and there is no suggestion it was stolen.
