JASON GILLESPIE has spoken of his three-year commitment to Sussex – as the county brace themselves for speculation over their new coach.

Gillespie is settling in at Hove ahead of the new season.

He is likely to be linked with the vacant post in charge of Australia after Darren Lehmann revealed plans to stand down.

Questioned as speculation gathered pace about Lehmann’s future, Gillespie said: “I’ve signed a three-year deal so I have every intention of honouring that commitment.

“I’ve got a couple more years with the Adelaide Strikers, a job that I really enjoy, I really cherish.

“I think there is a really good opportunity here and I’m pretty excited about this opportunity.

“Bloody hell, I’ve only been here since Saturday!

“It’s a bit early to be called for other jobs.

“I’ve just got here, I haven’t even been here a week.

“But, look, I’m just excited about the role.

“I think it’s a fantastic role.

“I’ve have got a great mix of young kids coming through and some really good men, good experienced cricketers, good people within our ranks. That excites me.

“We’ve got a support staff with some very experienced coaches there.

“I’m hoping to learn as much as I can off them as well.

“If we can all work together to help these lads play some really good cricket and entertain our fans, then I think that’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

Sussex will not be facing Aussie opener Cameron Bancroft this season as the fall-out from events in South Africa continued.

Bancroft’s deal to play four-day and 50-overs cricket for Somerset this season has been cancelled.

They play Sussex in the group stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Sussex hope for some pre-season action against Hampshire at Hove today (11am) after day one of their two-day friendly was washed out.
