RUNNERS are preparing for an early start tomorrow as they take on the Brighton Marathon.

This year’s race will start at 9.45am, with the masses beginning their 26.2-mile challenge at Preston Park.

Elite runners will start at Withdean Stadium and those running the 10km race will start at 9am.

The event village will be next to the marathon finish line on the seafront.

It will be open to visitors from 9.30am to 7pm today and 8.30am to 6pm tomorrow.

There will be a number of road closure at varying times throughout the day.

Roads affected will include A259 Marine Parade, A23 London Road/Preston Road, Preston Drove, Preston Park Avenue, Ditchling Road, North Road, Jubilee Street, Church Street, A270 Lewes Road, Franklin Road, Wellington Road, Elm Grove, A259 Kingsway, Grand Parade and many more.

Due to planned engineering works, trains tomorrow will be disrupted, so passengers are advised to check nationalrail.co.uk before you travel.

There will also be a number of bus routes affected on race day.

Both runners and spectators can make use of the park and ride shuttle bus service to the start line and from the finish line.

Visitors are strongly advised not to travel into the city centre tomorrow morning.

Key road crossing points during the marathon will be located at St Peter’s Church, the Aquarium Roundabout, Pool Valley Bridge and Regency Square.

Children were taking part in the weekend of races this morning, with The Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens mini mile races starting in Preston Park at 10am.
