Hundreds of people gathered on the seafront to see the launch of Hove Plinth.
The sculpture Constellation, based on a model of the solar system and featuring emblems of Hove, is the first artwork to grace the plinth.
Artist Jonathan Wright was joined by Brighton and Hove Mayor Mo Marsh and Hove MP Peter Kyle to officially launch the plinth on Hove promenade at the bottom of Grand Avenue.
The crowd was also treated to live entertainment from the Swing Ninjas band.
The plinth, launched by Hove Civic Society, is Hove’s answer to Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth and is the result of a six-year campaign.
