THE BRIGHTON Centre will be turned into the House of Fun when Madness return to the city for the second time in just two years.

It must be love for the legendary Ska band as they plan to return to the city in December.

In 2015 the band bowled over thousands of fans at the County Ground.

Madness are one of the top 20 selling UK groups of all time, with seven top ten albums, 22 top 20 hits and over six million album sales to their name. It’s been an incredible few years for the nutty boys from their gold selling ‘Can’t Touch us Now’ album, sell out shows to their recent compilation ‘Full House – The Very Best Of Madness’.

They will be playing the Brighton Centre on December 22 as the last show of their tour.

Frontman Suggs told previously told The Argus about his love of the city.

Speaking before the 2015 gig, Suggs - real name Graham McPherson - told us: “Brighton to a Londoner is an important place. It’s where you went for the bank holiday weekend.”

“In the olden days, we used to go down to Brighton for football matches.

“I remember there was a one-legged ticket inspector at Brighton and he could catch you, he was like the bionic man.”

The band had an unbroken run of 20 top 20 hits between 1979 and 1985 – including the number one House Of Fun and favourites One Step Beyond, My Girl, Baggy Trousers, Shut Up, Our House and It Must Be Love.

The seven-piece broke up in 1986 but reunited in 1992 for the Madstock concert in Finsbury Park, London – a show which is famed creating vibrations as big as an earthquake which registered (4.5 on the Richter scale) as fans bounced to One Step Beyond.

They started out in 1976 as the North London Invaders formed around pianist Mike Barson, guitarist Chris Foreman and saxophonist Lee Thompson. Vocalist, dancer and trumpeter Cathal Smyth (aka Chas Smash) initially joined as bassist

Hastings-born Suggs arrived a year later, and was fired and returned in 1978 alongside the rhythm section of drummer Daniel ‘Woody’ Woodgate and bassist Mark Bedford and they were newly renamed Madness.

One Step Beyond, title track of their debut studio album, became their first top ten hit in 1979 and the band did their now legendary Nutty Walk through the crowd on Top of The Pops.

The band have notched up 15 UK top ten singles including the number one single House of Fun.
