A man accused of attempting to snatch a young girl in the street has appeared in court.
Michael Belhawla, 24, of no fixed address, appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court this morning.
He is charged with attempted kidnap and attempted sexual assault of a girl under 13 by touching in Brighton.
He did not enter a plea to the charges.
In the alleged attack an eight-year-old girl was grabbed by a man in Tidy Street, Brighton, in the morning of Saturday May 5.
Belhawla, wearing a black suit and white shirt, only spoke to give his name, address and nationality.
Chair of magistrates Nigel Peacock decided the case should be heard at Lewes Crown Court.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear on June 6 for pre-trial preparation hearing.
