A BREWERY has been slammed for posting on social media that its beer has female hormones in which causes drinkers to “talk crap”.

The 1648 Brewing Co, based in East Hoathly, near Uckfield, became the subject of dozens of negative reviews and posts by social media users after the post was made on its Facebook page.

The misspelt post stated: “It as [sic] been discovered that our beer as [sic] female hormones in it, after five pints we talk crap and can’t drive.”

Many people were outraged, labelling the post “sexist” and “misogynistic” before it was later deleted.

Coedee Carolanne Murray wrote: “Seem to think women don’t drink beer… disgusting old-fashioned attitude that will get your brewery nowhere.”

Andrew Hugh posted: “Misogyny is always a sad indictment. Jokes in poor taste says a lot for the sort of company they are and that ought not to be supported.”

Facebook user Minty Rutherford wrote: “Misogynistic company that openly discriminate.

“I would not bother lining their pockets in exchange for sub par beer.”

Beer critic Melissa Cole took to Twitter, posting a screenshot of the brewery’s post, saying: “It has been discovered on Facebook that 1648 Brewing Co seems to have too much sexism in it, talks c*** and can’t acknowledge this is 2018 not 2019.”

In a post on Facebook, the company said: “Here at 1648 Brewing Co we’d really like to say sorry for any offence caused by a previous post.

“Our Facebook page was being updated by a beer enthusiast who was helping with the page not employed by the business. This page will be run by ourselves in future.”

The company has also been contacted by The Argus for a comment.
