Artists replaced pictures in a cafe with their own work –and no one noticed.

Over three days, digital art duo The Artful Bodgers swapped photos in frames hung on the walls of the Constantinople in Norfolk Square, Brighton, right under the noses of staff.

Matt Whistler and Archi Ram were not rumbled for three days until the manager finally spotted the re-digitised pictures.

Speaking to The Argus Matt, 45, from the Brunswick area of Hove, said: “It was over a three-day period, as doing it in one hit would have been too difficult.

“It was really revolving around the busy-ness of the venue or when it was incredibly quiet, sneaking a couple of the frames off the wall and replacing them with our re-digitised artwork.

“The originals were black and white and we threw a bit of colour in there with one or two characters so it was very much in keeping with the venue.

“We were about a third of the way through when one of the waitresses noticed but she kept quiet, which was amusing.

“Then as we got towards the end the manager rather hysterically clocked what was taking place.”

Constantinople’s manager Medo Galip was so impressed he offered the duo the chance to exhibit their 17 framed pictures at the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fusion restaurant.

Matt said: “Constantinople seems to be a gathering for the artist community, so that’s why we wanted to do an exhibition there.

“And as we are The Artful Bodgers we decided to take an artful bodging approach to doing an exhibition.

The artful pair have also struck at Shoreham Harbour.
