A MOTORCYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital after a crash with a car this morning.

Police are dealing with the collision at the A259 at the junction with Barnhorn Road and Green Lane in Hooe, near Battle.

The driver of the car has been taken to Conquest Hospital in St Leonards, and both motorists are believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The road is expected to be closed between Little Common and the Lamb Inn until lunchtime.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "Police received reports of a road traffic collision between a motorcyclist and a car on the A259 south of Hooe at 8.20am on Thursday.

"The road is currently blocked and is expected to remain closed between Little Common and the Lamb Inn until lunchtime."

"Injuries are believed to be serious. The driver of the car is being taken to the Conquest Hospital, Hastings and the motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital in London."

Sussex Roads Police tweeted at 9.47am today: "We are dealing with a serious collision between a motorbike and a car on the A259 at the junction with Barnhorn Road and Green Lane in Hooe, near #Battle.

"Emergency services are on scene.

"If you can, please find an alternative route and thank you for your patience."

One motorist responded: "Taken one and a half hours from Bexhill to #Eastbourne. Marsh Road eastbound from Pevensey roundabout also appears closed.

"Gridlocked from before Wartling up to A271.

"Chaos everywhere trying to do Bexhill/Eastbourne journeys including #Ninfield."
