A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found near a seafront shelter.

Police were called after the body of a 40-year-old woman was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Forensics teams set up tents and cordoned off the area along Eastbourne seafront in South Downs Way, below the B2103 King Edward’s Parade.

Following the discovery, a 38-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery.

He was in custody on Wednesday while police continue with inquiries.
