ANYONE in need of a helping hand when it came to getting it up was in luck, according to this sign.

As long as ‘it’ was a garden shed, of course.

In today’s Timeout we take a look back at old signs.

This Walton Buildings ‘erection service’ sign from the 1980s surely raised a few smiles.

It says: “Our erection service includes assembly of building onto a prepared base.

“It is the customer’s responsibility to provide a suitable base before delivery.”

Waltons are still erecting sheds and garden buildings today.

A young child is looking at a sign on Brighton seafront in the 1950s.

It is a warning about a sudden fall of about five feet in the sea bed, due to “unusual tidal conditions.”

Advertising signs are pictured on the side of a building in Brigden Street in Brighton in 1984 as an old lady looks up at them.

A handwritten sign advertising old aged pensioners and children’s cod and chips for 75p sign from 1988 is pictured here.

Dog owners are warned not to let their pets foul the footway or grass verge in 1990.

A person called Gez took over a billboard to spray a message wishing Beverley a happy birthday in 1988.

Lastly, a sewage warning sign in 1988 advises people not to swim within 24 hours of heavy rainfall due to storm sewage outfalls.
