A RALLY to “smash the stigma surrounding women’s nipples once and for all” will take place in Brighton next weekend.

Free The Nipple campaigners aim to “reclaim ownership” of women’s bodies and will congregate at Old Steine Gardens on Saturday, July 7, at 2pm.

They will make their way to the seafront for a rally at Pop-Up Brighton in King’s Road Arches before ending their day with a party at the Rialto in Dyke Road.

Organisers said on social media: “Free The Nipple is about the emancipation of women and all bodies under the patriarchy. We commit to this message in its entirety.

“This march will be safe, radical, anti-establishment, enjoyable for participants.

“Men who come to stare and pester everyone for selfies, you will not be welcomed.

“This space is not for you.

“The comfort and happiness of our genuine participants is our top priority.”

On the day, team members from the Free The Nipple campaign will be visible thanks to blue helium balloons so participants can easily identify them should they feel uncomfortable at any point and need someone to talk to.

The rally will also promote positive attitudes towards the transgender community

Campaigners write: “Breasts in public are controversial but for trans folk this is magnified ten fold.

“Pre or post surgery, trans bodies are seldom seen in public.

“Our culture’s obsession with the gender binary and rigid beauty standards means that exposing your nipples as a trans person guarantees some kind of hassle.

“On Saturday, July 7, we march in solidarity with our trans and non-binary siblings, saying loudly and proudly all bodies are good bodies and all nipples should be free.

“Smash the patriarchy.”

Organisers have urged those attending to arrive promptly to ensure they are suitably eye-catching for the march.

They write: “We’ll be doing body painting from 2pm to 2.45pm, so make sure you get in the queue nice and early.”

“There will be food, drinks, art and music at the end of the march at Pop-Up Brighton - but make sure you buy a ticket to the after party in the evening.”
