TODAY it is home to a leading watersports centres, offering wakeboarding, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and standup paddleboarding.

Hove Lagoon was constructed in 1930 and was in full swing by the mid Thirties with model yachts floating on its surface.

The lagoon is now also home to a skateboard park, a playground, a children’s paddling pool and play area.

A group of men is pictured here cleaning the lagoon in 1937.

A more recent picture – dated 1985 – shows the blackened remains of a play castle after it was vandalised and burned.

The Hove Lagoon Cafe, which has been run by Fatboy Slim since 2013, is seen here in 1990.

It was renamed Big Beach Cafe when he took over. The building is still there, but this photo was taken before the paddling pool and play area were constructed next to it.

The paddling pool was opened in 1999.

In 1990, there was concern over the unsafe playground surface at Hove Lagoon.

A couple of children are pictured playing on a climbing frame and slide with an unnamed woman standing in front of it.

We also have a picture today of Vicky Balcombe and Shirley Divall, dressed as devils for the NSPCC raft race at Hove Lagoon in 1992.

A sculpture made from beer cans is also pictured here in an unknown year.

The model was displayed at the lagoon but we don’t know any more about it.
