Five hundred children and adults enjoyed their Saturday with a big splash in a giant water slide at Queens Park.

The 100m water slide was set up by Brighton charity Amaze. All proceeds will go to help Brighton and Hove families with disabled children.

This is the second year Amaze has brought the event to Brighton. Last year, they set up the water slide at Wild Park and raised more than £5,000.

Nicky Bagilhole, event organiser for Amaze, said: “We hope we can reach more than £5,000 this year. We want to raise as much as we can to help families in need.

“This is a really exciting event for the kids. The sun was out and it was perfect way for the children to spend the summer.”

Joe Wilburn, 12, from Brighton said: “It was super fun and I found it easy to manoeuvre down the slide.

“I have been on a water slide before, but not as big as this one.”

Bob Wilburn, eight, said: “I had a lot of fun and this is my first time on a water slide. I would back on it three hundred million times.”

Jean Wilburn, nine, said: “I had so much fun and it’s my first time on a water slide. It was a bit hard to control, I fell backwards once. But then I got the hang of it.

“I would also go back on it three hundred million times.”

Children were not the only ones who went on the slide. Couple Leon and Elizabeth Warrington, both 34, said they enjoyed their time and went back on the water slide twice.

Mr Warrington said: “I loved it. I am a plumber by trade, only this time I am getting wet for a different reason.

“My sister works at a charity and she got us some tickets. We love watersports and activities. I taught diving in the military.”

Mrs Warrington said: “I am a swimming teacher and I just love the water. It was really great fun and it’s just nice to support charity.”
