BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION’S new home and away kit for this season is actually pretty cool...well The Argus thinks so anyway.
Admittedly, there has been some debate about choosing green for the away kit, especially with teams playing on grass, but we are sure the players will be able to pick each other out.
That certainly wasn’t the case when Manchester United, wearing a grey away kit, were thumped 3-1 by Southampton in the 1996-97 season.
Fuming United boss Alex Ferguson ordered his team, who were 3-0 down at the interval, to change from their “invisible” grey top into their alternative blue and white kit but things only marginally improved in the second-half with Southampton eventually prevailing 3-1.
It is certainly the first, and as far as we are aware, only time the colour of football shirts has been blamed for a defeat.
Never mind the colour, though, what about the designs?
Albion have escaped relatively unscathed over the years with their traditional blue and white home kit varying little.
But there has been some absolute horror shows over the years and Arsenal were among the chief culprits, especially in the Eighties and Nineties, with a series of absolutely horrific away strips.
Therefore, the modern football fan has plenty to be grateful for when they part with their hard-earned cash to buy a replica shirt.
At least Albion fans know they will look cool as the club embarks on its second season in the Premier League.
