FATBOY Slim has admitted he "would have been sad" if he missed out on performing at the i360.

The adopted Brightonian, real name Norman Cook, will take to the observation tower on Brighton seafront on Monday to perform a gig 450ft in the air.

The announcement was made yesterday, and he is excited to perform in his "home town" once again.

Fatboy, originally from Bromley in Kent, told The Argus: "I've been in talks with the i360 – we tried doing the open party.

"But there are limits of what I am allowed to do on the beach, so we never quite pulled it off.

"I feel like Brighton is my home town, so if someone else got to be the first DJ to do it I would have been quite sad."

There are just 120 tickets available to see the internationally-renowned artist.

However, 54-year-old Fatboy's set will be broadcast to plenty more online by Cercle, a French live streaming platform.

The channel will be streaming the performance live on Facebook.

Fatboy said Cercle was behind the arrangement of the gig.

And he is crossing his fingers that those watching from other parts of the world will get to see the city in all its glory.

He said: "For the most part, people will see it on Facebook.

"What they will hopefully see is one of the most beautiful sunsets on the south coast.

"The view, usually, is second to none."

Fatboy will be high above the site of one of the biggest – and most chaotic – events in recent Brighton history that he was involved in.

The Weapon of Choice artist played to 250,000 adoring fans on the beach in 2002, and it was manic.

One man died and dozens were injured at the free party.

Ambulances could not get through the streets to the casualties as they were swamped with ravers.

Fatboy said he tries to do one major gig in Brighton each year, and he performed at Wildlife festival at Shoreham Airport last year.

He added: "Apart from this, there is nothing (gig-wise) of any note this year. I might pop up doing something for charity around Christmas time."

Tickets for Monday cost £50 per person.

They went on sale at midday today.
