WHY ARE the streets of Brighton so filthy now?
I was walking up North Road and then down West Street and I couldn’t help noticing black stains, fag butts and general detritus messing the walkways.
This is apparent everywhere in the city. It makes our city look dirty and cheap and generally giving it a run-down look.
This is bad for everybody as it affects people consciously and subliminally.
I think it is appalling considering how much we have to pay for council tax.
The question has to be asked: “Where is our money going?”.
When I was in Seville two years ago, I noticed cleaning teams washing/hosing the roads/pavements down every morning.
The pavements and roads were immaculate everywhere I went, adding to my feeling of well-being and wholesomeness in their city.
Apparently, Spain is a poorer country than the UK. The message here is that they know it needs washing down every day as the muck builds up in layers and becomes much harder to remove if you leave it.
This means that Brighton City Council is not actually saving money. The chewing gum and stains will be permanently ingrained in the pavement thus costing them more in the long run.
Something needs to be done!
