A WITNESS has described how a trip to the cinema turned ugly when rowdy teenagers caused chaos during the screening.

As reported in The Argus yesterday, police were called to Cineworld at Brighton Marina on Sunday after yobs terrorised film fans during Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.

Horrified parents with young children walked out as the teenagers shouted, swore, threw food, watched pornography on a phone and even hit a woman in the head, according to a witness.

The film had to be paused while they were kicked out of the venue.

The customer, who asked not to be named, has told how she watched the teenagers “kick off” in the cinema.

She described how three boys aged about 14 were moving around from seat to seat and she was “rather shocked” to see one of them playing “live porn” videos on his phone and holding it in the air.

She said a woman spoke to one of the boys during the film and he then hit her round the head.

“They ran out laughing and swearing loudly,” she said. “The two girls were in and out of their seats constantly. Almost at the end of the film a lady turned round and said to one of the girls behind her ‘you are a rude little girl and you have ruined this film for me and my family’.

“She left the cinema. She came back with members of staff, the lights went on and the film was stopped.”

She added: “The girl who had caused it all really kicked off. The family had endured constant talking, name calling, their seats being kicked, hair and ears touched, food thrown.

“The girl was now screaming and swearing.

“A lot of people with younger children left.”

She said there had only been two members of staff and they had been nervous.

“The girl was now screaming that she was a traveller and everyone was being racist,” the witness said.

“Security came and escorted them out. The lady had had drink and food thrown at her by now. The film was wound back quite a way and we enjoyed the end of it. When we left there were crowds of people waiting for the next viewing clearly fed up. These youngsters were clean, well dressed and all seemed to have expensive phones, but no moral compass at all.

“No one seems to have taught them any respect or how to behave in public. They didn’t really come to watch the film. Why would three young boys want to watch Mamma Mia? They clearly didn’t.

“Cineworld did their best but the disruption would have continued all night, with lots of everyday people like us affected.”

“We do not notice the millions of people bringing up their families quietly and decently, only the loud minority who have no respect for anyone else.

“If parents do not teach their children how to behave they will not know.

“These youngsters were using awful language and the youngster with pornography on his phones is obviously not given any boundaries on what he can access. It’s a shame.”

A Cineworld spokesman said: “We can confirm that on Sunday afternoon a screening of Mamma Mia 2 at Cineworld Brighton Marina Village was disrupted while security staff responded to an incident involving a group of disruptive customers.

"These customers were swiftly removed from the cinema and the Police were contacted. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and have offered refunds to those affected. We would like to thank our customers for their co-operation.”
